Jizera Mountains

Jizera Mountains (Jizerské hory, Izera Mountains) are part of the Western Sudetes
on the border between the Czech Republic and Poland. The mountain range got
its name from the Jizera River, which rises at the southern base of the Smrk massif,
formed prevailingly from granite in the south, and gneisses and mica schists, with
some areas of basalt in the northern part. The weather conditions are characterized
by high annual precipitation. The Jizera Mountains are an attractive location for
winter sports, cycling and hiking. The major resort for both downhill skiing and ski

run is Bedřichov where the
international cross-country
skiing races Jizerská 50 and
Bieg Piastów (in Polana
Jakuszycka) take place.
Another popular sport event
old in summer is a MTB race.
